Nihon University, one of the oldest private universities in Japan, whose name derives from a Japanese word "Nihon" meaning "JAPAN", is of incomparable size for a Japanese university. Its forerunner, Nihon Law School was founded by Count Akiyoshi Yamada, the first Minister of Justice of the Meiji Government in 1889, the 22nd year of Meiji.
日本大学（Nihon University），简称日大，是一所于1889年建校，本部位于日本东京都的综合性私立大学。1889年，山田显义创办了旨在研究日本法律的日本法律学校。1893年，成为司法省（现法务省）指定学校。1903年，改称为日本大学，1920年根据日本政府大学令正式成为新制大学。
