Marciano, a slight underdog, won by a ten-round split decision. On October 26, 1951, with 37 wins and 32 knockouts under his belt, Marciano faced former World Heavyweight Champion Joe Louis and knocked him out in the eighth round. Louis was his boyhood idol, and Marciano cried in Louis's dressing room after the fight.
