Summaries. Two 12-year-olds, who live on an island, fall in love with each other and elope into the wilderness. While people set out on a search mission, a violent storm approaching them catches their attention. Set on an island off the coast of New England in the 1960s, as a young boy and girl fall in love they are moved to run away together.
The paint-tube-pure hues of Moonrise Kingdom evoke picture books but also reinforce subtle connections between the characters, who live on an island called New Penzance off the New England coast, in the summer of 1965.
