I used to joke that Soft Machine might be the only band I know to have made the transition from free jazz to smooth jazz. Upon rewriting this review in 2022 I'm tempted to say that such a statement is giving this album not enough credit, but I could just as easily say that it's giving it too much credit because Land Of Cockayne is for all intents and purposes a Karl Jenkins solo album using ...
22 de ago. de 2010 · Three years after Alive & Well: Recorded in Paris (Harvest, 1978), Britain's Soft Machine suddenly resurfaced momentarily with Land of Cockayne.Given the experimental nature of its glory days and a latter-day fusion masterpiece in Bundles (Esoteric, 1975), it's understandable why Cockayne has historically been considered Soft Machine's dullest moment.
The Soft Machine fans had to wait more than forty years for finally have a real Soft Machine studio album, if we discard "Land Of Cockayne", a weaker album probably released due to contractual obligations. So, we can say that finally we have another great studio album by this great and pioneer band.
