Accommodation. The College guarantees its students accommodation for three years of their studies. The majority of our undergraduates, including first years, are housed on the historic main College site in a variety of accommodation. This ranges from Victorian rooms in the original building, to the modern en suite rooms in Ash Court.
As well as a sparkling academic programme, life at Girton includes an opportunity to engage with music, sports, the arts and a wide range of student societies. Girton is a 10-minute bus/15-minute cycle from Cambridge’s centre. The relaxed atmosphere, tight-knit community, and distance gives students the unique feeling of ‘coming home’ after busy days of work and play. Girton admits around 145 undergraduates each year and about half of our students read science subjects and half the arts and social sciences. We offer places in every subject available at Cambridge except Education and History of Art.. We are committed to admitting students of the highest intellectual potential, irrespective of social, religious or financial considerations.
Ethos. Girton was the first residential college for women’s higher education in the UK and this commitment to inclusivity and equality is still important to us now. We are consistently amongst the colleges with the highest proportion of state school students and are a global community with students from 38 countries around the globe!
