The Deer Hunter is een film uit 1978 van Michael Cimino met in de hoofdrollen Robert De Niro, John Cazale, Christopher Walken en John Savage. Het scenario van de film is gebaseerd op het scenario van de nooit geproduceerde film The Man Who Came To Play van Louis Garfinkle en Quinn K. Redeker over Las Vegas en illegaal gespeelde Russische roulette .
"The Deer Hunter" is said to be about many subjects: About male bonding, about mindless patriotism, about the dehumanizing effects of war, about Nixon's "silent majority." Moments later he sees a woman, badly injured, carrying a baby. The soldier mercilessly shoots her. Mike springs up and blasts the soldier with a flamethrower.
