Background. Paramount Pictures was involved in television as early as 1949 when it owned a television network called the "Paramount Television Network" and an early television division known as "Paramount Television Productions". The network presented and produced 17 programs in total until it and the production banner were dissolved in 1956.
The first and original incarnation of Paramount Television was the name of the television production division of the American film studio Paramount Pictures, that was responsible for the production of Viacom television programs, until it changed its name to CBS Paramount Television on January 17, 2006, due to the Viacom split.
