Der Film basiert auf Erinnerungen von Shane Meadows, der selbst in den frühen 80er Jahren in der Skinheadszene aktiv war. Erzählt wird die Geschichte des 12-jährigen Shaun ( Thomas Turgoose ), der durch die Freundschaft mit einer Gruppe Skinheads endlich die Anerkennung findet, die er nach dem Tod seines Vaters, der im Falklandkrieg gefallen ist, schmerzlich vermisst hat.

Shane Meadows is a self-taught, British film-maker who hails from the Midlands in the UK. He was born in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, UK on the 26th of December 1972. After dropping out of school before reaching his O-Levels, Shane originally had his sights set on becoming an infamous, criminal mastermind of legendary proportions.

That city's estates and suburbs have provided the locations and settings for all his work to date. While on the dole, Meadows completed some twenty-five short films shot on a borrowed video camcorder. One of these, Where's the Money Ronnie!
