Edward Sheriff Curtis, né le 16 février 1868 près de Whitewater et mort le 19 octobre 1952 à Whittier, est un photographe ethnologue américain [1]. Il a été l'un des principaux anthropologues sociaux des Amérindiens d' Amérique du Nord [ 2 ] — et de l' Ouest américain — laissant trace d'écrits, d'enregistrements sonores des chants indiens [ 1 ] et de nombreuses photos sur verre.

12 de abr. de 2020 · Born in Wisconsin in 1868, Edward Sheriff Curtis took to photography at an early age. In 1895 he photographed Princess Angeline, the daughter of the Duwamish Chief Seattle, for whom the city was named. That encounter sparked Curtis’ lifelong fascination with the cultures and lives of Native American tribes.
They had been selected from 40,000 photographs taken between 1897 and 1930. The cameras Curtis used in the field were a 14×17 inch glass plate view camera, a 61/2×8 inch dry plate Reversible Black Premo view camera with a shutter speed of 1/25 of a second, and a 6×8 inch sheet film reflex model. There were no exposure meters and no filters.
Edward Sheriff Curtis (Cold Spring, nabij Whitewater, 16 februari 1868 – Whittier, 19 oktober 1952) was een Amerikaans fotograaf en etnoloog. Hij werd vooral bekend door zijn fotostudies van het Noord-Amerikaanse Indianen-leven, waaraan hij ruim dertig jaar van zijn leven besteedde.
