Biografia. Ken Watanabe nacque nel 1959 a Koide, nella prefettura di Niigata, la madre era un'insegnante di scuola mentre il padre insegnava calligrafia.A seguito di vari trasferimenti dei genitori per ragioni di lavoro, Watanabe si spostò numerose volte nella regione, abitò nei villaggi di Irihirose e di Sumon, oggi parte della città di Uonuma, e a Takada, presso la città di Joetsu.
