26 de feb. de 2022 · Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band were an American band who created music that has occasionally been dubbed "avant garde-blues".Their music was characterized by bluesy melodies, shambolic instrumentation, idiosyncratic, unbound timings, the growls and shrieks of Beefheart's vocals and his surreal, poetic lyrics.
The following is a list of official releases by American musician Captain Beefheart. With various line-ups of musicians called The Magic Band, Beefheart released a total of 13 studio albums recorded between 1967 and 1982, after which he left music to concentrate on a career in painting, as Don Van Vliet.

Volgens anderen pleegde hij in de nieuwe band een machtsgreep. De band stond eerst bekend als The, en later als His Magic Band. Hoe dan ook, vanaf 1965 wierp hij zichzelf op als leider. De naam van de band is ontleend aan 'Captain Beefheart vs. the Grunt People', een nooit van de grond gekomen filmproject van Frank Zappa.
