(AP) — Ed King, a former guitarist for Lynyrd Skynyrd who helped write several of the group’s hits including “Sweet Home Alabama,” has died in Nashville, Tennessee, according to a family friend. He was 68. Scott Coopwood said King died Wednesday due to cancer. Funeral arrangements had not yet been announced Thursday.

  3. A post on King's Facebook confirmed the death. "It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Ed King who died at his home in Nashville, Tennessee on August 22nd, 2018," the post said. A cause of death was not given, but King had been battling cancer and had been recently hospitalized.
