They may also participate in the University of Melbourne’s Extension Program (UMEP), under which they take first year degree subjects while still studying for their VCE. As a State High School, The University High School does not charge fees, although parents are asked to pay a modest annual levy.
University High School Before our present school came into being, there existed in Melbourne a privately owned and operated school by the name of “University High School”. This institution was founded in 1893, and was, at first, located in the then disused Teachers’ College (now part of the Melbourne College of Advanced Education) on the corner of Swanston and Grattan Streets, Carlton.
The University High School was a year 9 to 12 co-educational select entry school for many years until 1971 where it became and remains today a local neighbourhood year 7 to 12 high school. The University High School continues to have a dynamic, forward thinking and progressive partnership with DEECD, The University of Melbourne and Bio 21 Institute.
