Mohawk ’s wide-ranging career found her collaborating with Frank Zappa and Jerry Garcia, providing song material for the Schoolhouse Rock children’s TV series, and recording a dozen solo albums between the late ’60s and the 2010s.
22 de dic. de 2023 · Essra Mohawk was born Sandra Elayne Hurvitz on April 23, 1948, in Philadelphia, the younger of two children of Henry Hurvitz, a taxi driver, and Anne (Sosnow) Hurvitz, who worked at a beauty shop.
After moving back to Philadelphia in the 70’s, Ms. Mohawk continued to sing as a session vocalist. She is especially known for singing on Schoolhouse Rock, the popular educational and musical cartoon series that continues to air on TV. Essra’s vocals are on “Interjections”, “Sufferin’ Till Suffrage”, and “Mother Necessity”.
