1 de feb. de 2007 · Coming on the heels of 2004's extraordinary Billie's Bones, with its predominant jazz-blues shapings, Folk Is the New Black may seem a bit too much like a throwback, a slighter effort, particularly as the bookending songs, "Danger, Danger" and the title track evoke the classic '60s hootenanny protest forms without adding anything new or evoking much militant ire.

Janis Ian (Janis Eddy Fink; 7 de abril de 1951) es una cantautora norteamericana que destacó en los años 1960 y 1970; su mayor éxito, "At Seventeen", formó parte de su álbum Between the Lines, de 1975, qué fue número 1 en Billboard.. Nacida en 1951 en Nueva York, Ian se introdujo en la escena folk cuando todavía era una adolescente a mediados de los años 1960.
Ian woonde lang in Nashville maar verhuisde daarna naar Florida. De laatste jaren beweegt zij zich ook op het terrein van het schrijven van sciencefictionverhalen. In juli 2008 kwam haar autobiografie uit onder de titel Society's Child . Recente cd's zijn God & the FBI (2002), Billie's Bones (2004) en Folk Is the New Black (2006).
