Paris Trout (Dennis Hopper), a cruel man who abuses his wife, Hanna (Barbara Hershey), also runs a store where he lends out money. When he goes to collect on a loan, Paris instead shoots two innocent black townspeople, a woman and her 12-year-old daughter.
