He's a master of lyric and mood; Buckner’s vast talents displayed on his first outing have kept Bloomed on the playlist of many a No Depression/alt-country fan over the years. Though his roots are in the California delta, Buckner is aligned with Lubbock, Texas–based artists like Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Butch Hancock.
Production. Produced by Lloyd Maines, the album was recorded in Lubbock, Texas, with additional studio work taking place in Austin. Butch Hancock played harmonica on the album; Ponty Bone played accordion. Buckner decided to make the album without using a rhythm section. Buckner has originally intended for Bloomed to be a concept album about his lineage and family.
