Heracles of Macedon. Heracles of Macedon ( Ancient Greek: Ἡρακλῆς; c. 327 – 309 BC) was a reputed illegitimate son of Alexander the Great of Macedon by Barsine, daughter of Satrap Artabazus of Phrygia. Heracles was named after the Greek mythological hero of the same name, from whom the Argeads claimed descent.
If ‘Barsine’ was a traditional family name, or title, it could have proliferated through their offspring. So, a creditable explanation for two same-named girls is to conclude one of the three daughters by Barsine and Mentor was named after her mother, in which case she is a more credible candidate as the mother of Heracles.

Barsine or Statira (340/339-320): daughter of the Persian king Darius III Codomannus, married to Alexander the Great. Achaemenid woman. When the daughter of the Persian king Darius III Codomannus (ruled 336-330) was born, she was called Barsine. She was probably born in 340 or 339, as we will see below. Barsine's father's reign was an unhappy one.
