Milica Bogdanovna Jovovich was born on December 17, 1975 in Kyiv, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union (now in Ukraine). Her Serbian father, Bogdan Jovovich, was a medical doctor in Kyiv. There, he met her mother, Galina Jovovich (née Loginova), a Russian actress.
In 1980, Galina Loginova-Jovovich, together with her family, emigrated from the Soviet Union. Foreign a few years she lived with her family in London, England, then moved to Sacramento, and eventually settled in Los Angeles, California. During the 1980s she also worked as a housekeeper at the home of Hollywood director Brian De Palma.
