Just as Ringo Starr had temporarily quit The Beatles in August 1968, George Harrison walked out on this day, unable to tolerate any longer the tensions within the group. The Beatles were at Twickenham Film Studios, where their rehearsals were being captured on camera.

It’s been reported that one of the Moody Blues loaned this guitar to Harrison after his Country Gent was smashed on a roadway on 2 December ’65, but photos from the “Daytripper” and “We Can Work It Out” video session of 23 November show Harrison playing this guitar, so another myth bites the dust.

The last songs from George Harrison—two albums’ worth of new works with basic tracks and vocals largely complete—are nearly all missing. The songs, first reported in 1999 by the late Billboard editor-in-chief Timothy White, and in 2001 by Harrison, were intended to be finished by Harrison friend and sometime producer Jeff Lynne.
