Winston never meshed with the rest of the group, however, and after two singles (including the classic "Whatcha Gonna Do About It"), he left the Small Faces in October of 1965. Jimmy Winston tried to remain in music with a band and a single release of his own on English Decca, to which the Small Faces had been signed.

Jimmy Winston, the original keyboard player for the Small Faces initially had his brother Derek help with fan mail, but then Jimmy asked a friend, Fran Piller to do it, and along with her friend Yvonne, they both took over and ran the fan club from Fran’s home in east London.

Marriott and Lane had already got the melody, inspired by Solomon Burke's classic 'Everybody Needs Somebody to Love', and manager Don Arden hired Ian Samwell and Brian Potter to write the lyrics.
