Santana's fourth album, Caravanserai, has the band moving into a jazz-rock direction that was gaining prominence during the early '70s. A Caravanserai was an inn where travelers could recuperate from their day's journey. Found in parts of Asia, North Africa, and southeastern Europe, they usually consisted of square buildings with an open courtyard in the center.
