Jugó el Mundial de Argentina 78 y en Colombia fichó por el Deportivo Independiente de Medellín (DIM). Al volver al Perú, en 1981, se puso nuevamente la camiseta de su equipo, el Deportivo Municipal, hasta 1983.
Hugo Alejandro Sotil Yerén, més conegut com a Hugo Sotil o pel malnom «El Cholo» (Ica, Perú, 18 de març de 1949) és un exfutbolista peruà.. Sotil començà la seva vida professional el 1968 al Deportivo Municipal de segona divisió, ajudant l'equip a pujar a primera. L'any 1973 fou traspassat al FC Barcelona on jugà al costat de Johan Cruyff i guanyà la lliga del 1974.
