He is a leader in the art world with his philanthropic ventures, artistic talents and creative mind and drive. Danny Simmons played an instrumental role in the conceiving of and co-producing the hit HBO show Def Poetry Jam, and won a Tony Award for the Broadway version of the show.
Sadly in October 2014, we lost Danny to a long battle with illness. However, we stand by his legacy and continue a strong club, one that still holds the same ideals that were taught to us by him. In 2016 in memory of Danny, the Woy Woy Judo Club created the Danny Simmons Memorial Judo Tournament, which is a yearly run competition.
