The precursor to Blue Öyster Cult was formed in 1967 as a band called Soft White Underbelly. It comprised of drummer Albert Bouchard, vocalist Les Braunstein, keyboardist Allen Lanier, bassist Andrew Winters and guitarist Donald Roeser who would later adopt the nickname Buck Dharma. Eric Bloom replaced Braunstein in 1969 and the group changed their name to Stalk-Forrest Group.
