Alan Michael Ritchson se narodil 28. listopadu 1982 v Grand Forks, Severní Dakotě. Jeho otec David byl US Air Force Seržant. Je prostřední ze třech bratrů, starší bratr je Eric a mladší Brian. V jeho deseti letech se rodina přestěhovala do Rantoul, Illinois. Navštěvoval střední školu v Niceville a promoval v roce 2001.
