Known as the Colored High School, this dual function was retained until 1901. Early in the 1920's a new site was selected at Calhoun and Baker Streets for a new building; it was named Frederick Douglass High School, in honor of the great abolitionist, orator, and statesman, and was approved by the Board of School Commissioners in 1923.

2 de jun. de 2015 · The Old New Orleans website says Nicholls opened on Jan. 29, 1940, at 3820 St. Claude Ave., at the former site of McDonogh No. 12. The school was renamed Frederick Douglass High School in the 1990s.
From 1900 to 1925 it resided in this building on the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and Dolphin Street. In 1925 the school relocated to Calhoun and Baker Street and was renamed Frederick Douglass High School. School #450-A.
