14 de mar. de 2021 · In 1955, Vickers Armstrongs Shipbuilders Ltd launched the 30,708 GRT SS Spyros Niarchos. Then the world’s largest supertanker, it was named after Niarchos’ second son, Spyros, born earlier that year. In 1956, the Suez Canal Crisis considerably increased the demand for the type of large-tonnage ships that Niarchos owned.

16 de abr. de 2024 · Stavros Spyros Niarchos, Stavros was born in Greece's capital city to a wealthy family, the son of Spyros Niarchos and his wife, Eugenie Koumantaros, a rich heiress. His great great grandfather, Philippos Niarchos, a Greek shipping agent in Valetta, had married a daughter from a noble family in Malta, whose younger offspring had moved to Greece to base themselves in a merchant business from Malta.
30 de mar. de 2018 · Stavros Spyros Niarchos was born in Athens in 1909. His family was affluent and had moved back from America to Greece just months before he was born. Niarchos studied law at the Athens university and then went on to join his mother’s family grain business, working with the mills.
