Hot Rats is the second solo album by Frank Zappa, released in October 1969. It was Zappa's first recording project after the dissolution of the original version of the Mothers of Invention. Five of the six songs are instrumental, while "Willie the Pimp" features vocals by Captain Beefheart. In his original sleeve notes, Zappa described the album as "a movie for your ears".
Hot Rats kicks off a period of creativity for Zappa that, in my opinion, is unmatched by any other recording artist. From here you can go to Burnt Weenie Sandwich, Chunga's Revenge, Weasels Ripped My Flesh or any number of early seventies Zappa that, for me, represent the best of Zappa's collosal catalogue.

Hot Rats (engl. für Heiße Ratten, eine Textzeile aus dem Stück Willie the Pimp) ist das zweite Solo-Album von Frank Zappa und wurde im Jahr 1969 veröffentlicht. Es erreichte Platz 9 der britischen Charts. Damit war es das erste Top-Ten-Album Zappas weltweit. Das Album gilt als eines der ersten Jazzrock-Alben und stellt eine Zäsur in Zappas musikalischem Stil dar.
