On pourrait résumer le line-up de ce "Playtime" à celui du National Health de "Of Queues and Cures" parti en tournée ; Dave Stewart y aurait simplement légué sa place à un Alan Gowen sur le retour, enterrant de manière définitive le profil à deux claviers qui avait pourtant contribué à façonner la personnalité de cette obscure formation (cfr premier album).
21 de oct. de 2006 · National Health was such a great band. Their music (mostly instrumental) is timeless, complex, melodic, filled with passion and unique. The band mates are all virtuoso performers - a rare breed. The live material on this disc comes from two outings recorded in 1979, so the sound quality is limited.
National Health is the first album recorded by the progressive rock and jazz fusion group National Health, one of the last representatives of the artistically prolific Canterbury scene. Although it was created during the rise of punk, the album is characterized by lengthy, elaborate and mostly instrumental compositions that combine prog and jazz elements.
In addition, Playtime includes a 16 page booklet with liner notes by noted Canterbury expert Aymeric Leroy, which tells the story of the last period of National Health with Gowen. Illustrated with rare photos, interviews and comments with all surviving members of the band, this is a fantastic, unexpected, newly unearthed document 20 years later, of a much loved band.
