Roy Kelton Orbison ( Vernon, Texas, 23 april 1936 – Nashville, Tennessee, 6 december 1988) was een Amerikaanse country- en rock zanger. Hij staat sinds 1987 in de Rock and Roll Hall of Fame en de Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.

De overleden Nederlands schrijver en fan Boudewijn Buch noemde Roy Orbison het lelijke eendje van de rock ’n roll zong het mooist. Hij miste het sexappeal dat Elvis en Mick Jagger hadden. Roy stond statisch op het podium om zijn nummers zo mooi mogelijk te zingen. Daarnaast was Orbison met zijn witte huid, donkere bril en kleding en zwarte kuif zeker niet moeders mooiste.
