Silver Jews was een Amerikaanse indie rockband.De band werd als Ectoslavia opgericht in 1989 door Stephen Malkmus en Bob Nastanovich (), James McNew (Yo La Tengo) en David Berman toen zij studeerden aan de Universiteit van Virginia.Ook Gate Pratt maakte deel uit van de bezetting. De lo-fi band nam het materiaal voor de eerste twee ep's grotendeels op met behulp van een walkman.
