The children were set to matriculate in September 1960 but the desegregation date was delayed until November 14 to give the schools additional time to prepare.

Just a few months earlier, the landmark Supreme Court ruling Brown v.Board of Education had legally ended racial segregation in public schools. The Bridges family didn’t know it yet, but this ruling would have a huge impact on their lives.
