9 de ago. de 2018 · Aug. 4, 2018 marked the 35th anniversary of Jobriath’s death in 1983. The singer died after his almost meteoric rise promised so much to so many, including Jobriath himself, but ultimately there was no follow through. The glam rocker faded into obscurity then died before more than a select few could even start to understand who he was.
Jobriath is the first album by the American glam rock artist Jobriath and was released in 1973. The singer/songwriter's first album for Elektra, Jobriath was preceded by a significant promotional campaign, attempting to create an American counterpart to David Bowie.
Elektra Records head Jac Holzman later confessed, "I made two errors of judgment in my days at [the label] and signing Jobriath was one of them." Equally incriminatingly, Jobriath doesn't receive a single mention in Holzman's official label history, Follow the Sun. At the time, however, Elektra's belief in Jobriath appeared limitless.
Bruce Wayne Campbell, known by his stage name Jobriath, was an American rock musician and actor. He was the first openly gay rock musician to be signed to a major record label and one of the first internationally famous musicians to die of AIDS.
