A man, John Murdoch wakes up in the bath of his hotel room, with no memory, not even of his name, and a dead prostitute in the room. He receives a phone call from Doctor Schreber, telling him that some people are coming for him and he should leave immediately. He flees, becoming the prime suspect in a series of murders of prostitutes.
Dark City, to me, is his breakout piece that showcases his eye for style, candy, and cinematic beauty. While there are moments that don't fit with the overall arc of the movie, it is nevertheless filmic brilliance throughout. If there were a genre of Sci-Fi noir, this movie would be the flagship.
