Portrait of Jennie is a wistful and really quite moving timeslip romance (although it could be read as a ghost story, too). I found myself completely captivated by it -- far more so than I have been by comparable tales like Richard Matheson's Bid Time Return (1975; vt Somewhere in Time) and Audrey Niffenegger's The Time Traveler's Wife (2003).
