The D Dorian is the second mode of the C Major Scale. It contains exactly the same notes, but starts on another note. Since Dorian has a Minor scale quality it can also be seen as a mode of the A Minor. The scale is otherwise most related to the D Natural Minor and D Melodic Minor scales, which differ with just one note in both cases.

Hey everyone, I've been trying to improve my blues improvising and have always been using the aeolian mode for a minor 12 bar blues. Recently I've been reading about soloing over a major blues (A7-D7-E7 for example) and most people seem to suggest either A mixolydian then D mixolydian then E mixolydian, or A dorian for the entire sequence.
