In accordance with doctor’s strict orders and due to health issues related to inner-ear nerve damage, he will also not be able to join 38 Special onstage in the foreseeable future.

He is the younger brother of late Lynyrd Skynyrd founder and singer Ronnie Van Zant, the older brother of present Lynyrd Skynyrd singer Johnny Van Zant and cousin of Jimmie Van Zant.In 1974 Donnie Van Zant co-founded 38 Special and was one of their lead singers until his retirement in 2013.
