Boarding Houses. As a fully residential school, our first concern is to provide students with a safe, structured, caring and happy community, a home from home. That is why we place so much emphasis on our House structure. Students live in one of five country houses or their lodges, some of which are on the campus and some nearby.

Hurtwood House has a 5% Oxbridge slipstream, but pupils are as likely to attend top drama or arts schools like RADA and LAMDA or St Martins. The school is non-denominational, open to and respectful of children from all religious faiths. Hurtwood House was rated Excellent in its most recently available ISI Educational Quality Report (2018).

But there is plenty else to do beyond the stage and classroom: jewellery-making, Model United Nations and dog therapy are all on offer.
Hurtwood House attains excellent academic grades in traditional A-level subjects (Maths is the largest department), though has become famed for its provision for the performing arts. Facilities for theatre, music, media and art are all top end, and put to constant use through the wealth of creative activities and productions throughout the year.

There was no need for Drama School for Emily, as six months after she left Hurtwood, she was sharing the stage with Judi Dench, Peter Bowles and Julia McKenzie in ‘The Royal Family’ directed by Trevor Nunn.
