  6. Born in Wales but since 1984 resident in France, John Greaves retains permanent appeal to generations of avant-rock fans through his association with what became known as the Canterbury scene. From 1969 he was bassist with Henry Cow (with Fred Frith, Tim Hodgkinson and Chris Cutler) and played with Peter Blegvad's Slapp Happy, later joining two further key ensembles, National Health and Soft Heap.
