The first person to observe cells as microscopic structures was the British scientist Robert Hooke. In fact, he was the person who gave cells their name. In his book Micrographia, he used the term cell to refer to the box-like structures he saw when he looked at dead cork tissue through a simple microscope 1 .
2 de may. de 2024 · Animal and plant cells both have a eukaryotic structure and share common cellular processes like mitosis and meiosis. Both cell types also contain essential organelles like the nucleus and mitochondria; however, they have key differences related to composition, how they grow, and the presence of structures like centrioles and plastids.
A plant cell contains a large, singular vacuole that is used for storage and maintaining the shape of the cell. In contrast, animal cells have many, smaller vacuoles. Plant cells have a cell wall, as well as a cell membrane. In plants, the cell wall surrounds the cell membrane. This gives the plant cell its unique rectangular shape.
