A record player and records were delivered to his bedside to keep him entertained during his stay. George Harrison visited Starr on 8 December, while Paul McCartney did the same on the following day.

It was a hit single for Canadian-born actor Lorne Greene in 1964.It reached #1 on the U.S. Billboard charts on December 5, 1964, as well as garnering the same spot on the "Easy Listening" chart, where it retained the position for six weeks. The single also peaked at #21 on the Hot Country Singles chart.
Ringo Starr collapsed and was hospitalized on June 3rd 1964 with tonsillitis. Jimmy Nicol was hired as a temporary drummer so that the 1964 Australasian Tour could continue as planned. Ringo was temporarily cured, and made his way back to the group in Melbourne on June 14th. His tonsils were later removed in December.

When Ringo Starr became ill with tonsillitis and was hospitalised on 3 June 1964, the eve of the Beatles' 1964 Australasian tour, the band's manager Brian Epstein and their producer George Martin urgently discussed the feasibility of using a stand-in drummer rather than cancelling part of the tour. Martin suggested Jimmie Nicol as he had recently used him on a recording session with Tommy Quickly.
