It is one of his most popular, and was inspired by a forest encounter on 15 April 1802 that included himself, his younger sister Dorothy and a "long belt" of daffodils. This translation by Williams reads more fluently and (in my view) therefore more comically than the Michael Hoffman translation. Metamorphosis is a horrible story very comically told, even if the comedy doesn't hit you immediately.
