The first Return of the Living Dead was not a rip-off from NOTLD, as it was actually written by John Russo, who co-produced NOTLD with Romero. However, John wanted to go a different direction with the genre than did Romero, so he made the original ROTLD. ROTLD part II is a great sequel, not a remake or a revision.
