Ry Cooder is one of the most inspired "sound makers" of all times. He began as a blues revivalist but rapidly established himself as an arranger and composer capable of creating the most haunting atmospheres. Cooder became famous with his thematic reconstructions of eras and styles (tex-mex, swing, rock'n'roll, etc), notably Paradise And Lunch (1974) and Paris Texas (1985).

In the early '80s, Cooder began to augment his solo output with soundtrack work on such films as Blue Collar, The Long Riders, and The Border; he went on to compose music for films such as Paris, Texas, Streets of Fire, Alamo Bay, Blue City, Crossroads, Cocktail, Johnny Handsome, and Steel Magnolias, among others.
