12 de may. de 2022 · Hubert Charles Sumlin (November 16, 1931 – December 4, 2011) was a American Chicago blues guitarist and singer, best known for his "wrenched, shattering bursts of notes, sudden cliff-hanger silences and daring rhythmic suspensions" as a member of Howlin' Wolf's band. He was ranked number 43 in Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" and influenced many guitarists.

A slight, unassuming man who usually stood quietly picking on a never-ending variety of guitars – everything from a Goldtop Les Paul to a quirky Italian Bartolini which looked like a prop from the Starship Enterprise – it was Hubert's spiky, icy cool lead lines that nailed the songs time and time again.

His first meeting with Howlin’ Wolf – With the exception of a 6 month hiatus, Sumlin was Howlin’ Wolf’s guitarist for a total of 23 years. He joined Wolf’s band in 1954 and played with them until Wolf’s death in 1976.
