Turteltaub was born on August 8, 1963, in New York City, one of two children born to comedy writer Saul Turteltaub (best known for his work on Sanford and Son) and his wife, Shirley Steinberg. Before the end of the century the younger Turtletaub had sold the company and newly cash rich, set his sights on Hollywood.
