Nick Gilder. Soundtrack: Barb Wire. Rock singer and songwriter Nick Gilder was born on December 21, 1951 in London, England. Nick's family moved to Canada and settled in Vancouver when he was ten. Gilder began performing in bands while in high school. His band Rasputin eventually became Sweeney Todd, which holds the distinction of being Canada's first glam-rock group.

Sweeney Todd is a Canadian glam rock band formed in Vancouver in 1975. They released two albums, the first with original lead vocalist Nick Gilder, who soon left for a solo career, and the second with his 16-year-old replacement Bryan Adams, who later enjoyed international success as a solo artist.

Nick Gilder began playing with Vancouver-based Sweeney Todd. The band split in 1977 after two albums (Sweeney Todd and If Wishes Were Horses) when he and bandmate Jimmy McCullouch moved to Los Angeles. That same year, Gilder began a solo career, signing to Chrysalis and releasing You Know Who You Are.
