Serge Lifar’s path to stardom is a true Cinderella story. After fleeing his native, war-torn Ukraine at the age of 17 to join Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes as a simple dancer, by the age of 25 he was already a choreographer and ballet master at the Paris Opéra.

In 1945, Serge Lifar brought back the tradition of the parade of the ballet corps, which had only taken place twice since its creation in 1926. Serge Lifar, původním jménem Sergej Michajlovič Lifar (ukrajinsky Сергій Михайлович Лифар, Serhij Mychajlovyč Lyfar; 2. dubna 1905, Kyjev – 15. prosince 1986, Lausanne), byl francouzský tanečník, choreograf a baletní mistr ukrajinského původu.
