Richard Conte, pseudonimo di Nicholas Peter Conte (Jersey City, 24 marzo 1910 – Los Angeles, 15 aprile 1975), è stato un attore statunitense noto soprattutto per i ruoli noir a cavallo fra gli anni 40 e 50 e per l'interpretazione del boss Emilio Barrese ne Il padrino (1972).

In 1972, aged sixty-two, Richard Conte appeared in perhaps his most memorable role: Don Emilio Barzini in The Godfather. The veteran actor was perfectly cast as the evil-eyed, mysterious crime boss, functioning as a rival to the central Corleone family in Coppola’s famous epic.
His first Broadway appearance was in the fast-flop Moon Over Mulberry Street. In 1939, still billed as Nicholas Conte, the actor made his first film, 20th Century-Fox's Heaven With a Barbed Wire Fence (1939). It was Fox which would build up the intense, brooding Conte as the "New John Garfield" upon signing him to a contract in 1943.
